Donald Trump significantly amplified his anti-Canada rhetoric over the weekend, posting multiple times on his Truth Social platform to criticize the nation's trade practices and issue new threats.

Trump claimed that his tariff policies have been instrumental in “saving” the American auto industry. He declared, "I don’t want Canadian cars, I don’t want Canadian parts, I don’t want Canadian anything.” He further asserted that Canada has been “ripping us off for decades” and stated, “They want to be treated like a State, but they aren’t one. I deal with the Leadership of many Countries, but I find Canada to be the worst. They are entitled no longer!”

In his posts, Trump urged Canadian companies operating in the U.S. to move their operations to America, promising, “When you move back, there are no TARIFFS!” He reiterated claims that U.S. businesses that previously moved abroad are now returning to the United States to avoid tariffs, stating, “Our long ago stolen businesses are now coming back to America in order to avoid paying tariffs. They are lining up, just like the rest of the World!!!”

These statements come as Trump has imposed additional tariffs of 50% on $28 billion of Canadian goods. Canada announced its own retaliatory countertariffs, which are scheduled to take effect on September 8.
