Trump Dubs DC Golf Course 'Trash Island' Amid Court Battle

President Donald Trump has christened a Washington, D.C. golf course "Trash Island," sharing images of alleged disrepair on his Truth Social platform as his administration faces legal challenges over planned renovations. The East Potomac Golf Links, which Trump's administration is fighting in court to transform into a "world class" facility, was depicted in late-night posts with broken fencing, flooding, and piles of debris.

Trump's administration has admitted to using the course as a dumping ground for debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing. The former president referred to the litigation against his renovation plans as "frivolous," arguing that the site was "broken and dilapidated" and that he intended to turn it into an "Island of Beauty and Success."

These comments follow a court hearing where U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes questioned the administration's representatives. When federal officials testified they were unaware of plans for the course's renovation, Reyes asked, "Do I believe the president of the United States or do I believe you?"

The judge had previously issued a temporary block on further tree cutting at the site, following the felling of hundreds of trees. Trump had referred to Reyes as a "crazed lunatic" prior to the hearing. Reyes also revealed she had received death threats related to the case, remarking, "I really don’t think that’s what the founders envisioned."

Trump announced on Sunday that the golf course would close for over a year beginning November 15 for the construction of a new championship facility. This marks the second time in recent weeks Trump has employed strong language to describe a property, having previously claimed he inherited a "dump" of a White House.
