Trump Doxes Senator Cotton Over Daylight Saving Bill

President Donald Trump publicly released the personal cellphone number of Senator Tom Cotton on Saturday, expressing anger that the Arkansas Republican was hindering a bill to make daylight saving time permanent.

Trump, who referred to Cotton as a "friend," criticized the senator for being the primary holdout on the proposed Sunshine Protection Act. "So, everyone in Arkansas, a State I love, and won 3 times, the last by 34 points, tell Tom to, GET IT DONE! Call Tom on his cellphone at [phone number], and let him know," Trump posted on Truth Social.

The Sunshine Protection Act, which would establish daylight saving time as permanent year-round, passed the House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support in July. However, the bill has faced an obstacle in the Senate, where it requires 60 votes to overcome a potential filibuster.

Senator Cotton stated his opposition to the bill, citing concerns about children going to school in the dark during winter months. "No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter," Cotton wrote on X. "Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first."

This is not the first time Trump has publicly shared a senator's personal contact information. In 2015, during his presidential campaign, he released the cellphone number of Senator Lindsey Graham.

The U.S. previously observed year-round daylight saving time in the 1970s but reverted to the biannual clock change. Efforts to reinstate permanent daylight saving time have seen renewed interest in recent years.
