Trump Distances Himself From Ousted Greek Ambassador Guilfoyle
Former President Donald Trump stated that Kimberly Guilfoyle was 'not a member of my family' and had 'dated my son a long time ago' amid her resignation as U.S. Ambassador to Greece.

President Donald Trump has publicly distanced himself from Kimberly Guilfoyle, who recently resigned from her post as U.S. Ambassador to Greece following a State Department investigation into her conduct.
When asked by a journalist if he was surprised by the allegations against Guilfoyle, who had been perceived as close to his family, Trump responded, 'No, she wasn't a member of my family.' He added dismissively, 'She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago.'
Guilfoyle, 57, resigned on Tuesday after weeks of negative headlines, including reports that she was under investigation by an Inspector General over her lifestyle and spending habits in Athens. The Daily Mail exclusively reported that the State Department had opened a probe into complaints of alleged 'tyrannical' leadership and lavish corporate perks at the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
Sources indicated that the Inspector General's office was examining allegations of potential substance abuse, use of private aircraft, a close relationship with an energy and construction company, and improper gift acceptance.
Trump's new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, confirmed Guilfoyle's departure, stating, 'We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign, she has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well.'
Guilfoyle, in a statement posted to X, denied the allegations, calling them 'false' and vowing to 'vigorously defend' her name and reputation. She emphasized her commitment to Trump and the 'America First movement' despite her time as Ambassador coming to an end.
Donald Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle began dating in 2018, months after his divorce from Vanessa Trump. They were a prominent couple in MAGA circles, and Trump Jr. proposed on New Year's Eve 2020, though they never married. Their relationship reportedly ended by late 2024, with Trump Jr. moving on to socialite Bettina Anderson.
Recent reports detailed the breakdown of their engagement, including leaked text messages. An insider close to Guilfoyle told the Daily Mail that she did not take the news of her resignation well, reportedly making excuses and calling the situation unfair.
Previously, top Democrats on the Senate and House foreign affairs committees had called for an investigation into Guilfoyle's conduct. Representative Gregory Meeks, the top House Foreign Affairs Democrat, stated, 'If these reports are accurate, Ambassador Guilfoyle is unfit to represent the United States abroad and should be removed from her position.'
An insider, Eric Deters, alleged that Guilfoyle had asked him for a six-figure payment and had attempted to have alcohol smuggled into a political festival, behaving 'like a high schooler.' He also claimed she asked him to compliment her to Donald Trump Jr. in an effort to regain his favor. Guilfoyle's legal team has disputed these claims, stating Deters owes her money for speaking and consulting work.
Republicans have also expressed concern. Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso called the reports 'very troubling' and 'concerning,' expecting the State Department and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to investigate.
Zacharia, who recently assumed the role of press secretary, made the announcement about Guilfoyle during her debut briefing. The briefing, limited to 14 minutes and taking questions only from the Daily Mail, Breitbart, and Fox News, was largely dominated by the news of Guilfoyle's resignation.
