Trump Declines to Endorse Vance for 2028 Presidency
The former president stated that he and the Vice President have not discussed a potential 2028 presidential run.
Donald Trump on Tuesday declined to offer an explicit endorsement for Vice President JD Vance's potential 2028 presidential bid, despite Vance standing beside him during an Oval Office event. When asked by a reporter if he would endorse Vance, who has indicated he believes Trump would support him if he ran, Trump stated, "He's a very talented person and he's a very good person, but we've, literally, I don't think we've ever talked about it."
Vance, who was present for the exchange, confirmed that the topic had not been discussed. "No, sir, I said that too," Vance replied.
Trump elaborated, noting that he and Vance had not discussed a potential presidential run. "It's early, very early right now, we have to get through the midterms, see how it goes," Trump said.
The question arose following an interview Vance gave to journalist Mark Halperin. In that interview, Vance, who is reportedly a leading contender in early polling for the Republican nomination, stated he believed Trump would endorse him for president in 2028, though he acknowledged they had not discussed the possibility.
Following the exchange about a potential 2028 run, Trump shifted the conversation to his recent campaign rallies, describing the crowds and the energy at these events.
