President Donald Trump announced Thursday the declassification of critical intelligence documents that he stated reveal "shocking vulnerabilities" related to election security, including hacking, exploitation, and foreign interference.
During an address to the nation on "free and fair" elections, Trump stated that this information had been "covered up and hidden" for years. The documents were posted to the White House website during his speech. He asserted that his administration has been aggressively pursuing policies and executive orders to secure U.S. elections.
Trump claimed the documents were compiled by the White House Government Transparency Taskforce, supported by the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and top intelligence agency chiefs, who had personally reviewed and confirmed their authenticity. He also reiterated his administration's focus on lowering drug prices, reducing crime, and strengthening the border, framing election security as a primary concern.
In conjunction with his address, Trump advocated for the SAVE America Act, which includes provisions for voter identification and citizenship verification. The act faces a critical juncture in the Senate.
