During a recent interview, former President Donald Trump addressed the health of Senator Mitch McConnell, a former Senate ally, stating he was "never a huge fan" of the Kentucky Republican.
McConnell recently released a photo and statement following a nearly month-long hospitalization. When asked about McConnell's condition, Trump responded, "I don’t hear much," before launching into a critique of the senator's political stances. Trump specifically cited McConnell's opposition to the "SAVE America Act," a proposed bill advocating for stricter voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements.
Trump has championed the SAVE America Act, suggesting it would secure Republican electoral victories for a century. However, critics argue the bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters who lack the specific documentation required. The bill also proposes restrictions on mail-in voting, a method Trump himself has used for casting ballots.
McConnell is among four Republican senators who have voted against the SAVE America Act, a point Trump highlighted in his criticism. "He’s against that," Trump stated. "And how can anybody be against that and against some other things. So it’s too bad. But, you know, I hope he’s gonna be fine. I don’t know if he’s fine, but I certainly hope he’s gonna be fine."
