Trump Criticizes Ilhan Omar Following Federal Raid on Her Home

President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Minnesota Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar, asserting she is "totally crooked" after federal agents conducted a raid at her Washington, D.C.-area home on Monday. Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for a campaign rally in Ohio, stated he had "nothing to do" with the criminal investigation into Omar, who has been a frequent target of his criticism.

"I've always found her to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me," Trump said. "I understand they're looking at her very carefully."

The raid occurred less than a month before the midterm elections, a timing that deviates from established Justice Department policies. Omar, a Somali immigrant who came to the United States at age 12 after her family was granted asylum, has engaged in years of public disputes with Trump. He has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims that she is in the country "illegally," despite her obtaining U.S. citizenship in 2000.

During a campaign event in Ohio, Trump referenced Omar's country of origin, stating, "She comes in from a country without laws, without police, without military, where all they do is shoot each other, and she comes into our country and she says, ‘'I have a constitutional right.’' She’s telling us about the Constitution, and she comes from one of the સૌથી worst countries anywhere on the planet."

Trump's comments also touched upon recent scrutiny of Omar's financial disclosures. He has amplified claims questioning her net worth, citing a disclosure that suggested Omar and her family were worth at least $30 million. This disclosure prompted calls for an investigation from Republicans and members of the House Oversight Committee, who questioned the reported wealth. Omar and her office attributed the discrepancy to an error by her accountant, and the Office of Congressional Conduct reportedly dismissed misconduct allegations related to the reporting error last month.

Representative Omar responded to Trump's remarks, denouncing the raid on her home as part of a pattern of efforts to "weaponize" law enforcement agencies and intimidate her during her reelection campaign. "For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns," Omar stated on social media. "This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation."
