Trump Criticized Son's Wedding Party Funded by Russian Oligarch, Report Says

Donald Trump publicly criticized his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., behind closed doors over a lavish wedding party in the Bahamas that was partially financed by a Russian oligarch. The former president aired his grievances to aides, citing concerns about his son's judgment, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Donald Trump Jr. married socialite Bettina in a Palm Beach ceremony before a subsequent reception in the Bahamas. Russian businessman Umar Kremlev reportedly contributed financially to this post-wedding celebration. While Trump has stated that his son later reimbursed Kremlev, the former president allegedly viewed the arrangement as a poor decision.

Bettina Trump addressed the reports on social media, sharing photos and referring to Kremlev as "our dear friend Umar." She clarified that the celebrations hosted by Kremlev occurred after the wedding and described them as a "generous wedding gift from a friend." She emphasized that "Friendship doesn't require a political motive. Generosity doesn't automatically come with an agenda."

The event has drawn scrutiny from Democrats on the House Oversight Committee. Representative James Walkinshaw questioned the motives behind a "Putin-connected Russian oligarch" funding a celebration for the former president's family, suggesting that "Putin's circle doesn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on the President's family for nothing." Representative Robert Garcia echoed these concerns, asking "What did he get in return?"

Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina's wedding celebrations included approximately 18 guests at the ceremony and 50 attendees at the reception. Trump Jr.'s siblings, Eric and Ivanka Trump, were present at the Bahamian event. A spokesperson for Eric Trump stated that he had no knowledge of Umar Kremlev. The White House and representatives for Donald Trump Jr. have been contacted for comment.
