Former President Donald Trump has drawn sharp criticism for suggesting that the appearance of some migrants can indicate whether they are likely to cause "trouble" in the United States.

During remarks made in the Rose Garden, Trump asserted that migrants entering the country under the Biden administration arrived through an "open border" and included individuals from "prisons, mental institutions, drug dealers." He claimed that "nobody checked" as they entered. He then added, "And you could look at some of them, you could say, ‘This is trouble.’ And they’d walk into our country."

Critics responded by denouncing the comments as "astounding" and indicative of racism. They suggested that Trump's assertion about identifying "trouble" based on looks implies a reliance on factors such as skin color. This comes as reports indicate that in the six months prior to last month, the Trump administration had reportedly been accepting predominantly white migrants, many from South Africa.

Since returning to office, Trump has implemented stricter deportation policies and aimed to limit the number of immigrants entering the U.S.
