President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he is considering renaming Lake Ontario to "Lake America" as a trade dispute between the United States and Canada intensifies.

The president made the statement on social media, indicating that the U.S. does not expect to conduct much business with Ontario, Canada's most populous province, in the future. The move would echo a previous executive action where Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

This consideration comes as the United States and Canada are engaged in a trade disagreement. The Trump administration recently imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods over the weekend. Canada is anticipated to announce retaliatory measures in response to these tariffs, following the breakdown of trade talks between the two nations.
