Trump Considers Moving White House Press Corps, Denies Pool Plans

President Donald Trump is considering relocating the White House press corps to a different location, while simultaneously denying reports that he plans to replace the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room with an indoor swimming pool. Trump stated on social media that he is exploring moving reporters to make room for other White House needs, aiming to utilize the current press area for "very badly needed space."

These comments follow a report from The New York Times, which indicated that Trump had discussed converting the press briefing room into a swimming pool. Trump, however, took to Truth Social to dismiss such claims, writing, "I am not building a swimming pool in the White House Briefing Room, and never had any intention of doing so." He further elaborated in a separate post that while he "may move the Fake News to a less obnoxious location, the old swimming pool will never be brought back."

The White House press briefing room was constructed above the former indoor swimming pool, which was built in 1933. The original pool was created following a campaign to fund a pool for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who used swimming for therapy.

Trump has previously commented on renovations within the White House, noting during a rally that his administration is "building some beautiful things." He also personally funded the installation of two large flagpoles at the White House in July 2026.
