Trump Considering Firing Greece Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle Amid Misconduct Allegations

President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that he is "looking at" the possibility of firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, stating, "We're not happy" with mounting reports concerning her alleged improper conduct.

Trump's remarks came as a senior U.S. official indicated that both the President and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were highly displeased with the allegations and expected a decision on Guilfoyle's position this week. The Wall Street Journal has detailed numerous claims against Guilfoyle, including allegations that she solicited $100,000 from a Trump donor before her confirmation hearing, promising access to administration officials. Further reports suggest she promoted the interests of a Greek energy company, allowed a lobbyist into private diplomatic meetings, and accepted inappropriate gifts or services.

Secretary Rubio, during his recent visit to Greece, expressed frustration with repeated media inquiries about the allegations. "You guys walk around thinking that because some source told you something and you reported it, it’s the gospel," Rubio told reporters. "It’s not the gospel. It’s not the gospel for me. That’s not the way we do things."

Despite Rubio's initial reluctance to address the specific claims publicly, he acknowledged the work of the embassy, stating, "Suffice it to say our embassy here is doing a great job. Our ambassador has been a strong ambassador here."

Vice President JD Vance also commented on the situation, stating he did not have full details but disapproved of the idea of selling access to government officials. "Of course, I don’t like anybody selling access to another government official, certainly a high-level government official," Vance said.

Guilfoyle, through her legal representatives, has denied any wrongdoing. Attorneys David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall asserted that any money sought from a Trump donor was for public appearances and speaking engagements that predated her nomination. They also stated that Guilfoyle has served with integrity and honor and that they are exploring legal options to collect alleged debts.

The State Department's inspector general is reportedly reviewing the allegations, although it remains unclear if a formal investigation has been initiated. Top Democrats from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and House Oversight Committee have called for an inquiry into Guilfoyle's conduct.

Guilfoyle, a former California prosecutor, was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., the President's eldest son. She was also formerly married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
