Former President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that the Republican Party will host an unprecedented "midterm convention" in Dallas, Texas, on September 9-10. The gathering is intended to boost enthusiasm for GOP candidates leading up to the November elections.
"BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas — One of my favorite places in the World," Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social. He described the event as "fantastic" and "truly historic."
Trump touted the "GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK" and the successes of the "America First Agenda," citing achievements such as eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, alongside stronger borders, safer communities, lower costs, increased job creation, and American energy dominance. He also pointed to declining oil prices and the denuclearization of Iran as evidence of his administration's effectiveness.
The convention, which will occur on a Tuesday and Wednesday, is shorter than the typical four-day conventions held in presidential election years. The Republican nominee for Senate in Texas, Attorney General Ken Paxton, had previously announced Dallas as the venue, but his announcement was not immediately corroborated with specific dates.
Trump stated that the convention will feature "hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators" and will celebrate the nation's achievements and future. He also promised "lots of Great Entertainment" and described the event as "a RALLY like none other."
"America’s 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness," Trump wrote. "Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future. THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!"
Texas is anticipated to deliver a significant number of new House seats to Republicans following a recent redistricting plan, though Paxton faces a competitive challenge from Democrat James Talarico in his Senate race.
