Former President Donald Trump took to social media to complain about a perceived lack of media attention following recent primary elections, contrasting it with what he described as "universal applause" for New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated he had achieved a "16-0" record by endorsing candidates in New York, Utah, Maryland, and South Carolina, but alleged that the media had not reported on these successes. He singled out Mamdani, who had endorsed three candidates that won their Democratic primary races, as receiving significant positive coverage from the "Fake News Media."
"Mayor Mamdani pulled through 3 solid Communists, and has received loud and universal applause from the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations Mr. Mayor.” He added, “I went 16-0 last night, helping to elect wonderful American Patriots, and the Media doesn’t say a word,” expressing frustration at receiving “zero media attention!!!” for his primary triumphs over the past two years.
A post from earlier the same morning also referenced Mamdani, stating, “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!! President DJT.”
Mamdani, 34, has been consolidating political power since his election in 2025, and the recent primary wins are seen by some as an indication of his influence in pushing the Democratic Party further left. The three candidates he endorsed are expected to win in their respective districts, potentially placing three allies in Congress by January. These New York results follow similar victories for progressive mayoral candidates in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Mamdani celebrated the wins by posting a video of basketball player Jalen Brunson responding to critics, which was interpreted as a response to detractors within his own party.
