Trump Claims Nobel Peace Prize Worthy for Preventing 'Obliteration of the World'

Donald Trump has reiterated his belief that he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, stating he has helped prevent the "total obliteration of the world" and ended eight significant wars.

"I settled eight wars, another one is coming. I got all the hostages back. I stopped maybe the total obliteration of the world because Iran will never have a nuclear weapon," Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. He added, "No president probably has settled any wars. I settled eight wars and big ones, and saved millions and millions of lives."

Despite these claims, Trump expressed skepticism about receiving the award, suggesting the Nobel Committee might not honor individuals "like me." He faces competition for the 2026 prize from frontrunners including Pope Leo XIV.

Trump's aspirations for the Nobel Peace Prize have been a recurring theme since his return to the White House. In January, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented him with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal, seeking U.S. support for her efforts in Venezuela. However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee clarified that such awards are non-transferable, stating, "Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time."

Efforts to resolve other international conflicts, such as Russia's war in Ukraine, remain ongoing, despite Trump's pledge to end the conflict. Meanwhile, U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran have contributed to a seven-month conflict that has disrupted global energy supplies and affected petrol prices.
