Trump Claims Nobel Peace Prize Deserves Him for Preventing 'Obliteration of the World'

Donald Trump has reiterated his belief that he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, stating his actions have prevented the "obliteration of the world" and ended numerous conflicts. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump claimed his administration's peacemaking efforts concluded eight wars, saved millions of lives, and prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

"No president probably has settled any wars. I settled eight wars and big ones, and saved millions and millions of lives," Trump said. "I stopped maybe the total obliteration of the world because Iran will never have a nuclear weapon."

Trump acknowledged that despite his aspirations for the prestigious award, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has a "reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me." The committee is expected to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize recipient on Friday.

His claims follow an instance in January when Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented Trump with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal, seeking U.S. support for her efforts in Venezuela. However, the Nobel Committee swiftly clarified that Machado's award was non-transferable, stating, "The facts are clear and well established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time."

Trump's past remarks have linked his pursuit of the prize to geopolitical maneuvers, including his interest in acquiring Greenland. While Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have reportedly nominated the U.S. president this year, verification of these nominations remains elusive.

Furthermore, parties involved in some conflicts that Trump claims to have helped resolve have contested his role. Violence has resurfaced in regions such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border. A settlement to Russia's war in Ukraine has also not materialized, despite Trump's pledge to end the conflict on his first day in a potential second term. Additionally, U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran have contributed to a seven-month conflict impacting global energy supplies and fuel prices.

Scrutiny of Trump's peacemaking claims has also arisen due to his inclusion of disputes that did not escalate to armed conflict during his presidency, such as disagreements between Serbia and Kosovo.
