Former President Donald Trump asserted that he would be the "greatest communist in history" if he were to embrace communism, during remarks at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority event.

Trump returned to the Washington Hilton, the site of an assassination attempt during the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April, to address a crowd of Evangelical Christians. He condemned the Democratic Party, stating it has been co-opted by socialists. The Faith & Freedom Coalition is a group of Evangelical Christians that has supported Trump for a decade, and he has spoken at their annual conference numerous times.

"I think I'd be the greatest communist in history," Trump told the audience, adding that under such a hypothetical scenario, he would freely distribute housing and food. He also characterized communists as "Godless" and suggested they often target religion, particularly Christians, stating they would "close your churches" and "kill your people."

The crowd responded with cheers and laughter to his remarks. Trump had previously posted on social media that "all communist countries attack religions violently."

His comments on communism followed recent election victories by several Democratic socialist candidates in New York. Trump specifically mentioned New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, suggesting that New York City's skyscrapers would eventually transform into "ghettos seen in the third world."

Trump also reminded the audience of his administration's actions, including the establishment of a Department of Justice task force to combat anti-Christian discrimination, a Department of Education directive to protect prayer in schools, efforts to ban transgender athletes from women's sports, and policies against gender-affirming surgeries for minors. He also referenced his administration's efforts against Islamist terrorists in Africa who have persecuted Christian communities, particularly in Nigeria.
