Former President Donald Trump recently claimed victory in both the club and senior championships at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey. Trump, 80, reported a score of 70, which is two strokes under par for the course, a feat that would have secured him the double win.
New details from a fellow competitor, Philip Zamloot, revealed that Trump and Zamloot both achieved a net score of 70. A net score is calculated by subtracting a player's handicap from their gross score. Footage of the scoreboard shared on Instagram by Zamloot indicated that Trump's gross score was also 70, suggesting he played with a handicap of zero. A zero handicap is typically associated with highly skilled golfers.
Trump himself shared footage of the event on social media, captioning a video of him collecting his trophy, "The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship!" He stated, "I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I'm given very little time to practice, because I'm focused on many other things."
He attributed his performance to "TALENT." The reported score of 70 follows a claim from the White House last year that Trump carded a 3-under 69 at the same tournament. These reported victories and scores have previously drawn scrutiny and skepticism from critics and sports journalists, including sportswriter Rick Reilly, who has questioned the legitimacy of Trump's golf achievements.
