Trump Claims Deal with Putin to Release Russian Diesel

Former President Donald Trump announced on social media that he has secured an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to release Russian diesel into the global market. Trump stated that Putin committed to an immediate release of 300,000 tonnes of diesel, with additional releases of 500,000 tonnes in November and another million thereafter.

"Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!" Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. He indicated that this agreement aims to address rising diesel prices, which have reportedly doubled in the U.S. since February amid the war with Iran and have put pressure on Republicans in advance of the midterm elections due to the rising cost of living.

According to AAA, the average diesel price in the U.S. is currently $6.28 per gallon, a decrease from the record high of $6.53 reached in late September.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, the U.S. Treasury issued a temporary license permitting the import of Russian diesel into the market. Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy for Putin, commented on social media, stating, "Russia-US co-operation on diesel and energy will benefit the world."
