Trump Claims Cornell Fraternity Case Defendants Won't Get Fair Shake with AG James
Former President Donald Trump expressed skepticism about the fairness of the investigation into the alleged gang rape at Cornell University, given New York Attorney General Letitia James's involvement.
Former President Donald Trump stated that the seven fraternity brothers accused of gang-raping a classmate at Cornell University will not receive a fair hearing if New York Attorney General Letitia James is involved in the probe.
"Tisha James is a corrupt person. She’s totally corrupt, and I can’t imagine it," Trump told reporters at the White House. "And I feel badly for whoever she’s looking at because they won’t get a fair shake. Letitia James is a corrupt person."
Trump's comments come after New York Governor Kathy Hochul directed James to take over the criminal investigation into the alleged incident at the Ivy League university. The New York AG's office has a history with Trump, having prosecuted him and his business entities following his first term in the White House.
James pursued civil fraud charges against Trump and his associates, alleging they inflated business valuations. While a New York court initially awarded a $454 million judgment, an appeals court later overturned it. Trump's Justice Department previously indicted James on federal charges related to a Virginia property purchase, but a judge dismissed the indictment due to improper appointment of the prosecutor.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed deep concern over how the accuser in the Cornell case was allegedly failed at multiple points.
