President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that he had agreed to cancel a planned U.S. military attack on Iran, citing an agreement on the "perimeters of a deal" with Iran and other regional governments.

Trump stated on social media that the U.S. was prepared for military action against Iran at a scale not seen since World War II. However, he explained that Iran and regional partners requested the U.S. "hold off any attack" due to the emerging peace agreement.

According to Trump, the proposed agreement includes the "Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT" and an "end to Iran’s nuclear threat." He said the decision to cancel the attack was made "for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran," adding that the cancellation is contingent on the parties' ability to "rapidly make a DEAL."

Trump also indicated that "The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment."
