Trump Cancels Second Sporting Event in Consecutive Weeks
Former President was slated to attend NFL game just days after backing out of college football matchup.
Donald Trump has canceled plans to attend an NFL game this weekend, marking the second sporting event he has backed out of in as many weeks. The former President was expected to be in attendance for the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Florida on Sunday.
CNN reported Tuesday that Trump's plans to attend the game were scrapped, according to a report. This follows a similar cancellation for a college football game between Georgia and Alabama the previous weekend.
Trump's absence from the college football game was attributed to Hurricane Isaias. He cited the need for first responders and law enforcement to focus on the storm rather than his attendance. "Based on the fact that a huge Hurricane/Storm is coming, it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the President of the United States, ME!" Trump stated on his Truth Social account on October 9.
The hurricane, a Category 3 storm at landfall, hit the Florida Panhandle near Destin on Friday evening, causing damage and resulting in several fatalities. The rivalry game between Georgia and Alabama, however, proceeded as scheduled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with Georgia ultimately winning 20-17.
This would have been Trump's second time attending a Steelers game in two years. He previously attended their matchup against the New York Jets in 2024 during his presidential campaign.
