President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised the plea deal reached in golfer Tiger Woods' driving under the influence case, calling the outcome "very fair."
Woods was arrested in March after crashing his SUV in Florida. Police found two hydrocodone pills in his possession. The deal announced this week includes a five-year suspension of his driver's license, $1,000 in fines, and a criminal record for a reduced charge of reckless driving.
"I think he's going to have somebody drive him. I told him that a long time ago, 'Why do you get somebody to drive you?' So he's going to have somebody drive him from now on," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump added, "I thought it was very fair… He's just a very special guy. I'm glad that was resolved."
Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-wife and the mother of his five children. The president described Woods as "a great guy" and "unique in so many ways, and especially as an athlete, but also as a man."
"He suffers great pain… because of his horrible back. He had, in my opinion, a bad doctor," Trump said. He did not elaborate on the nature of Woods' medical conditions or pain. Mazes and woods arrived for his plea conference hearing in a DUI case stemming from a rollover crash in Florida, on Sept. 2, 2026.
