Trump Calls Obama 'Lousy President' After Cheesecake Factory Jab
The former president mocked the refurbished White House, prompting a fiery response from the current president.
President Donald Trump on Monday responded sharply to a recent remark by former President Barack Obama, calling Obama a "lousy president" who is "not smart at all." The exchange began when Obama, during a campaign appearance for Democrats in Ohio, compared the refurbished White House to the Cheesecake Factory.
Trump, speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews before departing for a campaign event in Mississippi, stated that Obama's comment demonstrated why he was an ineffective leader. "Only a stupid person would run the country like that," Trump said of Obama's presidency.
Trump defended the renovations he has overseen at the White House, characterizing them as necessary maintenance. He asserted that Obama failed to notice issues like uncleaned walls or broken ornaments. "We have to explain to Obama that the White House is a symbol of America, and it has to be maintained properly," Trump said, adding that he had "fixed it with the finest artisans in the world."
Obama's original remark, made on Saturday, suggested that Trump "should be on HGTV." He then added, "He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory."
The official White House X account also weighed in, posting a mock menu listing Trump's accomplishments and contrasting it with the Cheesecake Factory's extensive menu. The post stated, "the only thing bigger than the menu is the list of President Trump's accomplishments."
Trump's renovations have included work on the East Wing, the Rose Garden, exterior columns, and the Oval Office.
