Former President Donald Trump on Friday asserted that Iran had violated a cease-fire agreement with a "foolish" drone attack targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. Trump stated on social media that Iran launched at least four one-way attack drones at vessels transiting the crucial waterway.

According to Trump, one of the drones struck the upper deck of a large cargo ship, causing damage but allowing the vessel to continue its journey. He added that three other drones were intercepted. "Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement," Trump posted to Truth Social.

The incident occurred a day after the White House had stated it was aware of the reports and investigating. A White House statement on Thursday indicated that President Trump has consistently maintained that Iran cannot disrupt the free flow of traffic through the strait. The drone attack potentially threatens the stability of the fragile cease-fire and complicates efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global oil transit.
