Former President Donald Trump on Monday called for the leaders of Iran to be prosecuted for "war crimes against humanity," describing the Islamic Republic as a "failed nation."
Trump made the remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD!" He further elaborated that Iran "has no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no currency, they are not paying their soldiers or police, Inflation is at 300%, and their leadership is in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country."
He accused Iran of disseminating "FAKE NEWS from the USA," engaging in the killing of protesters, and possessing "a good line of ‘BULLS—.’"
The former president's statement followed U.S. military action against rocket launchers attributed to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to U.S. Central Command, these IRGC forces were deploying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime passage through which a significant portion of global oil flows.
"U.S. forces took limited, precise action against IRGC minelaying forces posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz," U.S. Central Command stated on X, formerly Twitter. "In essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce."
