Former President Donald Trump on Monday publicly urged an end to Russia's war in Ukraine, attributing escalating diesel fuel prices in the United States to Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow's energy holdings.
"Russia has unfortunately lost control of its Diesel Oil Industry due to its War with Ukraine," Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social. He added that "A large number of their Diesel refineries have been blown up and are, at least temporarily, out of commission."
Trump described the ongoing conflict as "ridiculous and never ending" and stated that "The whole World suffers as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are being killed each month. What a shame!"
US diesel prices reached a record high of $6.51 per gallon as of Monday morning, according to reports. Trump has previously advocated for Ukraine to cease long-range drone attacks on Russian oil facilities to stabilize the energy market.
The former president is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
