Trump-backed Senate hopeful Hinson calls for swift end to Iran war

U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, a Republican candidate for the Senate in Iowa and an ally of former President Donald Trump, stated that the war in Iran should be "brought to a successful and immediate end." Hinson, who is running for the seat previously held by Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, linked the ongoing conflict to the elevated fuel costs experienced by Americans.

In a post on X, Hinson argued that Iowans should not bear the financial burden of the Iran war at the gas pump or the grocery store. She advocated for a range of measures to provide economic relief, including suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, expanding the use of E-15 fuel, reinstating a biodiesel tax credit, and establishing a diesel relief program for farmers and truckers.

"While doing this, we should also ensure our highway trust fund is replenished, so that Iowans don’t suffer from crumbling roads and bridges while relief comes our way now," Hinson wrote. "These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end."

Trump endorsed Hinson for the Senate seat shortly after she announced her candidacy. She currently serves in the U.S. House of Representatives, having taken office in early 2021. Hinson's opponent in the Senate race is Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek, who has received the endorsement of former President Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, former President Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly, stating, "I have a big decision to make. Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before... Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic, and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?"
