Trump Awarded 'Man of the Century' Certificate by Congressional Candidate
Iowa Republican Joe Mitchell presented the former president with a custom award, drawing mockery online.
Former President Donald Trump received a custom-made "Man of the Century" certificate on Thursday from Joe Mitchell, a Republican candidate for Congress in Iowa. Mitchell presented the award during a campaign rally, stating that Trump has accomplished more for humanity and America than any previous president.
Trump, who has a history of seeking accolades, including expressing a desire for a Nobel Peace Prize, reacted with a "wow" as the certificate was handed to him. Mitchell also thanked Trump for being "the greatest president we’ve ever had."
Trump has openly expressed a desire for prestigious awards, including the Emmys and Pulitzers, but has shown particular fixation on the Nobel Peace Prize. He has previously stated he believes he should have received multiple Nobel Peace Prizes, contrasting this with former President Barack Obama, who received the award.
To fulfill this perceived lack of recognition, Trump has often been presented with awards by his supporters. These range from genuine honors, such as a Nobel Peace Prize from Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, to fabricated accolades like the "FIFA Peace Prize" presented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The "Man of the Century" award quickly drew criticism on social media, with users mocking the gesture as a sham. Comments included observations about the award being inexpensive to create and a reminder of Trump's past criticisms of "participation trophies."
