Trump Attacks Fox News for Airing Opponents
Former President Donald Trump criticized Fox News for giving airtime to Democratic and independent Senate candidates, while accusing the network of failing to adequately cover his rallies.
President Donald Trump renewed his criticism of Fox News on Tuesday, alleging the network prioritizes coverage of his political opponents over his own rallies. The former president expressed frustration that the conservative channel provided significant airtime to Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Nebraska Independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn.
Trump specifically targeted an interview El-Sayed gave on Martha MacCallum's "The Story," which he described as a "softball interview" and contrasted with his own coverage. "Fox News spends more time covering the Jihadist and Dumocrat candidates than they do the good old fashioned Republicans," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also claimed that Fox News "never interviews me like that."
Just minutes after his comments about El-Sayed, Trump turned his attention to Osborn, who was being interviewed on "America's Newsroom." "Fox News is long form interviewing the sleazebag, Dan Osborn, right now," Trump posted, questioning the network's decision to feature him. Osborn's interview, which lasted about six minutes, reportedly focused on his leaked criticisms of Trump supporters and his Senate race against Republican Pete Ricketts.
Trump accused Fox News of promoting Democrats and the MAGA movement, stating, "They have totally lost their way!" He also complained that the network failed to showcase his "record breaking Rallies" the following morning. Trump warned that if the rallies were not featured on Fox, viewers would "very quickly stop watching (like I am doing right now!)"
This latest outburst follows a pattern of Trump expressing dissatisfaction with Fox News' coverage, particularly after the 2020 election and during the 2024 primary season. He has previously criticized the network for coverage he believed favored his rivals and for not adequately covering his rallies. In one instance, he accused the network of giving too much airtime to "Communists, Socialists, and Dumocrats" and questioned who made editorial decisions at Fox News.
The criticism comes shortly after Fox News announced that Karoline Leavitt, Trump's former press secretary, would be joining the network as a contributor. Despite Trump's current grievances, Fox News has historically been a significant platform for his political messaging. This incident highlights the complex and often contentious relationship between Trump and the news network.
