Trump Attacks Bill Maher in Lengthy Truth Social Post Following White House Dinners
Former President Donald Trump launched a blistering online critique of HBO host Bill Maher, calling him a "complete and total loser" despite having met with him twice at the White House.
Former President Donald Trump unleashed a lengthy and scathing attack on HBO host Bill Maher via Truth Social, just weeks after hosting Maher for a second dinner at the White House. The broadside, which marked one of Trump's longest-ever social media posts, left observers baffled by the abrupt shift in tone after previously describing Maher as "great" and their meeting as "informative."
In his Sunday night post, Trump derided Maher as a "complete and total loser" with a "Low Rated Show on equally Low Rated HBO." He criticized the network, which he claimed "was once, long ago, a Network of Quality and Excitement," but is now "not 'HOT' anymore."
Trump recounted his past relationship with Maher's show producer, Chuck LaBella, from his time hosting "The Apprentice." According to Trump, LaBella frequently encouraged him to appear on Maher's program. "When I became President, I agreed to meet, after the first one, and the last one, but never agreed to do his show, which he wants me to do, DESPARATELY [sic] — It won’t happen!" Trump stated.
He claimed that LaBella and singer Kid Rock had advocated for inviting Maher to the White House for a meeting, which led to their April dinner. However, Trump asserted that Maher "invited himself."
During the recent White House meal, which Trump claimed lasted two hours or less, he observed Maher appearing to be in poor condition. "Also, I wanted to tell Bill that he’s a major POTHEAD. He’s got to stop, it’s very bad for his health. He looked like hell this time. Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House," Trump wrote. He added that Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock were also present. Despite his criticisms, Trump stated, "Overall, I thought it was a good meeting. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time."
Trump declared that Maher's show had worsened since their second dinner and urged the host and his team not to contact him again. "There were so many other falsehoods Bill spewed, but I won’t waste time in FACT CHECKING him. He isn’t worth it," Trump wrote, directly addressing Maher: "Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless, and tell Chuck LaBella not to call so much, and say how much you love 'TRUMP,' and want to get together, because you’re a hopeless guy, who is just trying to cater to your small group of 'fans.' You’re also a coward who is afraid to tell the truth about how well our Country is running because of your few 'fans,' and how badly the Dumocrats have done, almost destroying the U.S.A."
He concluded his post by stating, "You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser! I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again, because it is nothing more than FAKE NEWS that America, and the World, is unfortunately subjected to."
The White House referred Fox News Digital to Trump's Truth Social post for comment. Maher had not immediately responded to a request for comment.
Comedian Tim Young, the Heritage Foundation’s media fellow, suggested that Trump may have been motivated by seeing Maher criticize him on television. "I watched Bill Maher’s show this weekend and can’t figure out what set off Trump more than usual. Maher always regularly criticizes Trump," Young told Fox News Digital. He speculated, "Maybe it’s that Trump watched a full episode for once because Karoline Leavitt was on and realized just how much Maher criticizes him. That’s the only thing I can think happened."
Maher himself had previously defended his meetings with Trump on his HBO show "Real Time," telling critics, "You can hate me for it, but I’m not a liar. Trump was gracious and measured."
