Donald Trump arrived in Turkey on Tuesday for a critical two-day NATO summit, where he was greeted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting is considered significant for the United States, Turkey, and the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which has faced strains due to its war with Iran.

Upon arrival, Trump received a welcome that included an aqua blue carpet and members of the Turkish military standing at attention. Trump and Erdogan, who have a close relationship, were seen embracing and walking arm-in-arm. Trump has previously commended Erdogan's strength and support for the U.S. war in Iran.

Trump is expected to use the summit to press NATO allies to increase their defense spending. He has consistently voiced concerns that allies are not contributing enough financially, noting that the U.S. bears a significant portion of NATO's costs.

Meanwhile, Erdogan reportedly aims to secure Trump's approval for the sale of U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter jets to Turkey. However, current U.S. law prohibits such sales, presenting a hurdle for both leaders. The F-35 is considered a key asset of the U.S. Air Force.
