Trump Approves Death by Firing Squad for Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan

President Donald Trump has approved the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting, by a U.S. Army firing squad. Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell announced that Hasan will be one of the first individuals executed by firing squad since 2010.

Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 others during the attack, which he stated was motivated by anger over his impending deployment to Afghanistan and a desire to protect Islamic leaders from U.S. troops. The Department of Defense initially classified the incident as an act of workplace violence rather than terrorism.

The execution date and location are to be determined by the Secretary of the Army. The 2009 shooting remains the deadliest attack on a domestic military installation in U.S. history.
