Donald Trump announced Thursday that Adam Telle, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, has been named Acting Secretary of the Army. Telle replaces Dan Driscoll, who left the position earlier the same day.

Driscoll's departure followed repeated disagreements with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth regarding his tenure, culminating in a meeting with Trump as he exited. Trump shared the news of Telle's appointment on his Truth Social platform.

"I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately. He is a Great Patriot, who is respected by all," Trump wrote in his post.

The White House will need to nominate a permanent replacement for the secretary position. Any nominee will require confirmation by a majority vote in the Senate. Telle is permitted to serve as acting secretary for 210 days, meaning a replacement would need to be in place by March 31, 2027. Earlier this week, Trump nominated Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao for the full-time role after Cao served four months as the temporary secretary.
