President Donald Trump announced Thursday the immediate appointment of Adam Telle as acting secretary of the Army. Telle previously served as the assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
This transition follows the resignation of former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, whose final day in the role was Wednesday. Trump accepted Driscoll's resignation on Monday evening.
In a social media post, Trump described Telle as a "Great Patriot, who is respected by all." Telle was sworn in as the assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works in August 2025. His prior experience includes serving as chief of staff to Senator Bill Hagerty and leading the Senate team in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during Trump's first term.
Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised the appointment. "The president made an excellent choice in appointing him to serve as Acting Secretary of the Army," Wicker stated. "Adam has been a fantastic partner as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. I am confident he will succeed in leading America’s Army."
Driscoll's resignation reportedly came amid growing tension between him and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to a U.S. official. The White House issued a statement Monday thanking Driscoll for his service and characterizing him as "highly effective."
