President Donald Trump has suggested he is preparing for potential Republican losses in the upcoming midterm elections, indicating a shift in his campaign strategy and a willingness to negotiate with Democrats during the remainder of his term.

In recent remarks, Trump has acknowledged the historical trend of presidents facing support erosion for their party during midterm races, which often leads to a congressional majority change. When pressed about campaigning harder this month, he responded, "No." He contrasted the current situation with the 2024 campaign, stating, "The hardest I ever campaigned, because I had to win, was the last. I took four months, no empty days, no empty hours. I made speeches all day."

When asked by Fox News host Laura Ingraham if his legacy was on the line, Trump replied, "It's never as important." He outlined a vision for his final two years in office, describing himself as a "blocker" who would prevent Democratic initiatives from advancing. "I'll be a blocker. I'll block all their bad stuff for two years," he said. He also suggested he might be open to making deals with Democrats, adding, "And probably be able to make deals with them."

Despite expressing a seemingly resigned attitude, Trump briefly wavered, asking, "So, it's not as dire," before adding, "maybe it is?"

Current predictions from the prediction market Kalshi indicate a 52 percent chance of Republicans retaining control of the Senate. Democrats would need to flip four seats to achieve this. Meanwhile, Democrats have an 86 percent chance of winning the House of Representatives, according to the same market.

Should Democrats gain control of both chambers, they would possess the power to advance legislation without Republican support and could initiate extensive investigations into Trump, his administration, and his business dealings. The report noted that Fox News's coverage of Trump's recent speech at a GOP convention in Dallas drew an average audience of approximately 2.5 million, a figure that did not reflect the typical surge in viewership sometimes associated with his live remarks.
