Trump Apologizes to Reporter After 'Fake News' Remark
President Donald Trump quickly retracted his 'fake news' label for a Daily Wire reporter after learning her affiliation.
President Donald Trump rescinded his "fake news" label for a reporter on Monday, just moments after applying it. The incident occurred as Trump spoke to journalists before departing for Kansas to campaign for Republican candidates.
When asked by a reporter for his reaction to claims that French President Emmanuel Macron blamed him for the riots sweeping France, Trump initially responded, "I think that's fake news." He then asked the reporter, "Who are you with?"
Upon learning she was Mary Margaret Olohan from The Daily Wire, Trump's demeanor shifted. "Oh, Daily Wire's good. Sorry, the Daily Wire's good," he said with a smile, before answering her question.
Trump stated that Macron "is a friend of mine" and reiterated his past advice to the French president regarding border security. "I told him a long time ago, 'You're making a big mistake in France,'" Trump said. "'You're letting everybody from the world come in.'" He added, "I told Emmanuel you should close up your borders, and let's see... I told him as soon as I met him, 'You're making a big mistake,'" the president continued. "We closed our borders, he didn't. And you know what? His borders are a problem."
Earlier on his Truth Social platform, Trump had commented on the unrest in France. "France is burning!" he posted Sunday. "The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country. Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!"
The demonstrations in France began with teachers and students protesting staff shortages but evolved into a broader movement against rising prices. The protests have been joined by various political figures and activists. Images from the weekend showed looting and property destruction, with dozens of individuals reportedly breaking into luxury stores. In response, Macron attributed the "unbridled violence" to "agitators from far-Left fringe groups, joined by numerous criminals." He vowed that those responsible for looting and damage would be held accountable.
