President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House for a closed-door discussion lasting nearly an hour on Tuesday. The meeting focused on stalled peace negotiations with Russia and Ukraine's ongoing need for American weaponry.
Zelensky arrived and departed the West Wing through a side entrance, avoiding media attention. The Oval Office meeting itself was also closed to reporters.
The U.S. and Ukrainian leaders are both scheduled to attend the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham later Tuesday at the Washington National Cathedral. Graham had visited Zelensky in Kyiv shortly before his death and had been advocating for increased sanctions against Russia.
Vice President JD Vance did not attend the Trump-Zelensky meeting, instead proceeding to a ceremony at the Capitol honoring Senator Graham. The relationship between Trump and Zelensky has reportedly seen improvement, following a publicly contentious verbal exchange involving Trump, Zelensky, and Vance in February 2025.
