Trump and Melania Host White House Halloween Celebration, Greet Thousands
The President and First Lady handed out candy and posed for photos with costumed children and families on the South Lawn.
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted their annual White House Halloween celebration on Thursday, welcoming approximately 6,000 guests to the South Lawn. The couple distributed commemorative chocolate bars to children dressed in costumes.
Among the attendees were administration staff, military personnel, law enforcement officers, and foster and adoptive families. The festive atmosphere included spooky songs performed by the U.S. Air Force string band.
One notable moment occurred when a child dressed as a founding father presented President Trump with a document, believed to be either the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence, for his signature. The president also signed the uniforms of two young race car drivers.
A highlight of the event was a flyover by the new Air Force One, which roared over the South Lawn, drawing the attention of the children and the President. Trump was observed to have pointed out the aircraft to the attendees.
The South Lawn was decorated with a large, illuminated harvest moon backdrop featuring silhouettes of bats, along with numerous pumpkins and squash. The Treasury Department distributed coloring books promoting "Trump Accounts" for the trick-or-treaters, while the Center of Science and Industry provided STEAM science experiment kits.
Food and treats were provided by the International Fresh Produce Association, offering apples, and the National Confectioners Association, supplying candy. The Agriculture Department set up a giant pumpkin for photo opportunities.
