Trump Ally's 'Perfect Quote' About Candidate's 'Ass' Draws Laughter on CNN

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins shared a remark from a Donald Trump ally that described the former president’s recent campaign focus as “ass, both literally and figuratively,” prompting laughter from her panel.

Trump has recently made repeated public comments about the physical appearance of Senator Jon Husted’s rear end during his 2026 midterm campaign rallies. On Sunday, he extended this commentary to praise the physique of MAGA rapper Nicki Minaj, who was present at a rally in Michigan and later appeared on stage with him.

During the rally in Michigan, where Trump was campaigning for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, he stated, “I said I looked at his ass and I’ve never done that with a man before. It’s true. Off the record, women. Yes. Men. No. OK? By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj. That. That’s hard to miss. That’s, stand up, that’s hard to miss. OK, I’m going to get back to my. Sorry. I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki.”

After playing footage of Trump’s remarks, Collins relayed a quote from an unnamed Trump ally who expressed dismay over the former president's closing campaign message.

Former Trump White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin, a panelist, called the ally's quote a “perfect quote” and suggested that Trump was “melting down a bit in the final stretch.” Griffin also speculated that Trump might have felt compelled to balance his recent comments on men’s physiques by acknowledging a woman’s physique.

Griffin added that while commenting on physical attributes is “the last thing he should be focusing on right now,” Trump understands he is performing for his audience. She noted that for candidates like John Husted or Mike Rogers, these remarks are likely not the desired focus for local television coverage.

Collins has been a subject of Trump’s personal criticisms in the past. Earlier this month, she appeared to subtly respond to one of his attacks by displaying a mug on her desk that referenced one of his insults.
