Trump Alleges 'Hoax' Over Alaska Senate Candidate, Urges Governor Candidate to Withdraw
The former president voiced concerns about a namesake challenger in the Senate race and endorsed GOP candidate Bernadette Wilson for governor, calling for rivals to step aside.
Former President Donald Trump has stated that federal authorities are investigating an independent candidate named Dan Sullivan who is running in the Alaska Senate race against Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan. Trump described the situation as a "hoax by the Democrats" intended to divert votes from the Republican nominee.
"We are looking, I can't say federal, but we are looking into it. It's a disgrace," Trump told Fox News. He criticized the independent Sullivan, stating he "knows nothing about politics" and suggested that efforts were made to alter his middle initial to match the incumbent's.
Trump also commented on the Alaska gubernatorial race, where he has endorsed Republican candidate Bernadette Wilson. He urged Dave Bronson, another Republican running for governor, to withdraw from the race, citing Wilson's primary victory.
"He doesn't have to, but he should, because, frankly, he lost in the primary by substantial numbers to Bernadette," Trump said. He expressed dissatisfaction with multiple Republicans competing against a single Democratic candidate, Mary Peltola. "I don't like that. I don't like those odds very much."
Trump also addressed Peltola's criticism of Senator Sullivan's voting record regarding Iran, particularly his support for action against the country. Trump argued that higher gas prices are a minor concern compared to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. "The war is going to be over very, very soon. We're going to have a big victory very shortly. Very, very shortly, and oil is going to come way, way down," Trump predicted, referencing his previous administration's ability to lower gas prices.
