Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made comments referencing the number of children born to senior Trump campaign officials and their spouses during a Fox News interview on Tuesday night. Bessent, appearing with host Jesse Watters, noted the recent arrivals of children within the circle of President Trump's close advisers.
"The vice president's done it, the chief of staff, Karoline Leavitt," Bessent said during a tour of the Treasury Department, with Watters adding Stephen Miller to the list. Watters commented, "You guys are very busy." Bessent responded, "We know what their hobby is."
According to reports, Stephen Miller and his wife Katie welcomed their fourth son in June. Karoline Leavitt, 28, and her husband Nicholas Riccio, 61, had their second child, a daughter, in May. Vice President Vance and his wife Usha are expecting their fourth child in July. Bessent himself is married to John Freeman, and the couple has two children.
Bessent's remarks came as he promoted the administration's "Trump Accounts" initiative. This program aims to establish $1,000 government-funded investment accounts for children born between 2025 and 2028. Bessent described the initiative as "one of the great social benefits for young people since the G.I. bill."
