Trump Agrees to Grant Visa for Mother of Slain Bronx Teen
Presidential intervention allows Ghanaian mother to travel to New York City to mourn her son.
President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old Bronx boy who was fatally shot while walking to school, enabling her to travel from Ghana to New York City to grieve her son in person. The announcement was made Saturday by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
"The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away," Mamdani stated on X, formerly Twitter. "Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy."
Frimpong was shot in the stomach around 9:25 a.m. on Thursday while on his way to school. Harrowing surveillance footage shows the teenager sprinting for his life through his Claremont neighborhood, pursued by an individual dressed in black, who eventually stopped while Frimpong continued to run before collapsing at East 171 Street and Third Avenue. He was initially reported in stable condition but later died from his injuries.
Frimpong had recently immigrated to the United States from Ghana. His father, Thomas Frimpong, 60, told The Post that his son had been experiencing bullying at 329 The Dream Yard Preparatory School, suggesting a possible link to the slaying. Police have not yet named a suspect or disclosed a motive for the shooting.
Mamdani and President Trump have developed a working relationship since the mayor took office, reportedly based in part on a shared connection to New York City.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
