The Trump administration is preparing to enact sweeping tariffs on approximately 60 trading partners, including the European Union. The levies, set to take effect on Friday, are intended to address alleged violations related to "forced labor," according to a notice from the U.S. Trade Representative's office.
The new tariffs, which will range from 10% to 12.5%, are designed to rebuild duties that were previously struck down by the Supreme Court. This action follows a recent 10% global tariff that is scheduled to expire on the same day the new measures are implemented.
The proposed tariffs closely resemble a plan initially issued in June, indicating a consistent approach by the administration to reshape international trade policy through import duties.
