The United States has imposed a 50% tariff on a broad array of goods imported from Canada, an action President Donald Trump described as retaliation for what he termed "unequal treatment" of American cars, dairy, and alcohol. The duties are set to take effect on August 19.

This move represents a significant escalation of trade tensions between the two neighboring North American countries. The White House stated that the tariffs are necessary to safeguard American businesses.

The targeted goods encompass a variety of items, from consumer products like wine and hockey sticks to industrial materials such as commercial cement. However, several key Canadian exports, including energy, potash, critical minerals, and fish, will be exempt from the new tariffs.
