The Trump administration has frozen more than $1 billion in Medicaid funding to California and Minnesota as federal officials review allegations of potentially fraudulent claims. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that the funds will remain on hold until both states can demonstrate that taxpayer money was spent lawfully.
This action comes as the administration continues its scrutiny of state-level spending and program integrity within the Medicaid system. The freeze impacts a significant portion of federal contributions to these states' healthcare programs, pending further investigation into the submitted claims.
In a separate incident also reported by the New York Post, five individuals drowned in Ohio's Scioto River. The victims were part of a group that entered the water in an attempt to rescue a swimmer in distress. The high river conditions are being examined as a contributing factor in the fatal rescue attempt, which has left young children orphaned.
