Trump Accused of Throttling Ukraine's Starlink Access Amid Political Disputes

Ukraine has reported that its access to Starlink, the satellite internet system operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, and its military counterpart Starshield, is being throttled. This development coincides with a period of increased animosity from former President Donald Trump towards Ukraine, stemming from disputes over oil prices and successful Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Trump's current anger appears to be primarily driven by Ukraine's actions targeting Russian energy infrastructure, particularly in the lead-up to U.S. midterm elections. Last week, Trump announced a U.S.-Russia diesel deal, which has faced bipartisan criticism and is not expected to significantly impact U.S. diesel prices. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has publicly criticized this deal, prompting Trump to lash out and call for Zelenskyy's replacement.

Furthermore, Trump announced an "ENERGY CEASEFIRE" between Ukraine and Russia, a claim that appears unsubstantiated, as both parties did not seemingly agree to its terms, and Russia reportedly resumed attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities on the same day. Ukraine, for now, is complying with the supposed ceasefire.

While Ukrainian strikes on refineries contribute to global oil price fluctuations, they are not the primary cause. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf oil industry, exacerbated by Trump's actions related to Iran, have had a more significant impact on oil prices. Trump, however, has attempted to shift blame to Ukraine.

Starlink and Starshield are crucial for Ukraine, providing vital communication infrastructure, especially on the battlefield. This technology is integral to controlling Ukrainian drones, which have become a key component of the country's military strategy against Russia.

Despite the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and the unclear agreement on a ceasefire, Trump is reportedly attempting to bind Ukraine to his proposed terms. The U.S. has allegedly threatened to suspend intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which has provided early warning of Russian missile attacks, if Ukraine continues to strike Russian refineries.
