Troy Aikman Declines to Deny Reports of Booth Tension with Joe Buck
The "Monday Night Football" analyst responded to questions about reported friction with his broadcast partner by stating that the timing might not be right for discussion.
Troy Aikman, a prominent analyst for ESPN's "Monday Night Football," has refrained from denying reports of tension between himself and his broadcast partner, Joe Buck. When asked about friction in their booth leading up to a recent game, Aikman suggested that the matter might not be suitable for immediate discussion.
Aikman, who has worked alongside Buck for over two decades, addressed the reports on Thursday. "There's probably a time and a place for all that to be discussed," Aikman stated on Sportsradio 96.7 in Dallas. "I don't know if now is the time. I don't know if it's hard to figure out kind of what's happened."
The reports, initially published by Front Office Sports, suggested that an argument occurred between Aikman and Buck prior to their broadcast of a game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams. The alleged dispute stemmed from Buck's recent contract extension with Disney/ABC/ESPN, while Aikman's own contract status for future seasons remains unresolved.
While Aikman and Buck have continued to broadcast games together, including an upcoming Super Bowl, Aikman indicated that his future with ESPN is uncertain. "I'll broadcast through this season and I'll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens," Aikman said. "I'm looking forward to whatever the rest of this year does hold and the Super Bowl and all that, and where my next landing spot might be."
ESPN has declined to comment on the situation. The nature of the alleged tension and its resolution remain subjects of speculation. The dynamics between the veteran broadcasters will likely be closely watched as the season progresses toward the Super Bowl on February 14.
