Troy Aikman Addresses

Troy Aikman, the current "Monday Night Football" analyst, stated that he believes he put Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in a "really unfair spot" with recent comments about potentially joining the Cowboys' front office. The remarks have fueled speculation about Aikman's future in broadcasting and his relationship with the team's ownership.

Aikman made these comments during a conversation with "The Musers" on Dallas' The Ticket sports radio. He explained that his interest in a front office role was a response to a question, and he did not want Jones to face public pressure regarding hypothetical scenarios. "The last thing I want is – I was answering a question, and I think it’s really unfair to Jerry that he then has to answer these questions," Aikman said. "As far as, ‘Hey, would you bring Troy back, or would you have a role for him?’ I mean, there’s no real good answer that he could give."

Aikman confirmed that he spoke with Jones about the matter prior to the "Monday Night Football" game between the Eagles and Cowboys in Philadelphia, where Aikman was calling the game for ESPN alongside Joe Buck. "We briefly touched on it just because I felt that maybe I backed him into a corner that he didn’t deserve to be backed into," Aikman stated. He added that Jones understood his position and was complimentary about the possibility, but emphasized that "we’re not having those conversations at this time."

The situation arises amid reports of an argument between Aikman and his longtime broadcast partner Joe Buck, following a significant contract extension for Buck from ESPN. Aikman and Buck have worked together for 25 years, forming the longest-running broadcast booth in NFL history. ESPN has reportedly shown less interest in extending Aikman's contract.

Earlier, Jones had publicly expressed openness to Aikman returning to the Cowboys organization in a front office capacity. "The answer is not necessarily that we’re going to do anything more direct with the team at this time, but don’t rule it out," Jones said during a weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "It is very possible."
